Eyes, Nose, Belly, Toes: My First Human Body Book by Krupa Bhojani Playforth MD
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I've been looking for a good body book. This one is perfect for us and I plan on buying a hard copy edition. A lot of the ones I've seen are older and the colours are dull. This book has bright illustrations and shows body parts in action. I understand the lure of actual pictures of children for body books; I own Making Faces and I love it. But this one kept my almost 10-month-old engaged. I like that there are prompts to use your body in the book, like wiggle your toes, and explanations of what your body can do, like bend your knees to jump. I'd recommend it for parents who want a fun and charming book to read with their toddlers.
Thank you, Callisto Publishing, for providing me with an ARC.
Elmo Gives Thanks: A Fall Picture Book for Kids About Gratitude and Love by Sesame Workshop
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was so happy to see this book. Thanksgiving books can be the holiday book category that falls through the cracks. This one is fun and has Elmo and all his Sesame Street friends. The illustrations are bright and fun. I read it to my daughter, and she enjoyed that the images. It was a bit long for a one-year-old. I would recommend it for ages three and up. It's simple and fun and full of good lessons about giving and being kind.
Thank you, Sourcebooks for the advanced reader's copy.
Artificial Intelligence for Babies by Chris Ferrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I love the simplicity of high concepts in this series. Considering computers and technology is all around our everyday lives, this book is very relevant. I would suggest it for ages 3 and up. These books are definitely helpful when your child asks you why and you need answers.
Thank you, Sourcebooks for this advanced reader's copy.
I'm Hungry! by Elise Gravel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Thank you Orca for this ARC. As a fan of Gravel’s books I am scary, and Potatoe on a bike, I was excited to get a chance to read this early.
The illustrations are simple but colourful and engaging. I read it to my newborn and even she was enthralled with the rythme of the dialogue the monster has with itself. It’s sweet and funny.
I’d compare it to: If you give a mouse a cookie 🍪.
