2023 in Books

According to Goodreads tracking in 2023, I read 21,169 pages across 75 books. The average length of the books I read was 282 pages, and my average rating was 4.5 out of 5.

The longest book I read was The Relentless Moon by Mary Robinette Kowal at 544 pages. The shortest was a picture book Bea’s Outdoor Adventure by my writing cohort Danielle Boyd. It was 24 pages long.

My goal this year was originally 50 books, and I stretched it to 75 when I hit my original goal in autumn. I kept it low because I had my daughter this year. I’m grateful for any page read. My reading was sporadic, often late at night, and sometimes using a combination of audiobooks and ebooks to finish the same book. Thank goodness for libraries. Often, getting an advanced reader copy would push me to read because I needed to review the book. Sometimes I feel like I need to justify time for myself.

According to the analytics of myyearinbooks.com my most read genres were Romance and Mystery. My top author at eight books read was Nora Roberts*, who also writes under JD Robb. It should surprise no one that NR is one of my favourite authors. Also, I read the most in October, thirteen books! Cozy spooky season for the win.

When I look back at the year, I go through my read list and see what pops out. What would I read again? Or wish I could read again for the first time?

The books that I recommend:

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, The Vibrant Years by Sonali Dev, Even Though I Knew the End by C.L. Polk, Identity by Nora Roberts (Read my NetGalley review), MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards (Read my NetGalley review), Kiss the Girl by Zoraida Córdova (Read my NetGalley review), Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn, The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre, and The Relentless Moon by Mary Robinette Kowal.
